Ok so these are the beautiful and very yummy peaches that Kris and I canned this week! We ended up with 54 quarts! We were so proud of ourselves being all domestic this year and canning peaches and salsa. We had successfully finished and removed all the salsa bottles from the table with no problems, but even though we laid down two thick towels under the peaches, to our horror, after removing the towels tonight, we found this..............

Yep, that is what my nice kitchen table now looks like-permanantly! We have scrubbed to no avail. It appears that the table finish was worn off by the heat or something-who knows. All I know is that my table now looks like this! After putting the girls to bed I walked down the stairs and looking at the ruined table, I commented that I was going to be grouchy every time I walked in the room now and Kris said "well you better take a picture and put it on the blog so you can at least get a little laugh out of it" (look how he has adjusted to the blogging mindset!) So I took a deep breath and remembering that our family night lesson this week was about having a good attitude I decided I better try and practice what I preach! Unfortunately I don't know what the solution to this problem is (because the funds to buy a new table are not available and I love this square style anyway) for now I better try to have a good attitude because I can't do anything to change what happened. SO lesson for the week-When canning super hot objects, apparantly two bath towels are not sufficient protection for a wood table!

You guys are SO domestic. All this canning....if there is a disaster I'm coming to your house for food. :) But that is pretty funny/sad about the table. Maybe you could sand it down and paint it or even put beadboard on it or something...I don't know.
Oh. My. Gosh. Kec! I can't believe that. I'm so sorry. Maybe you should just do it to the rest of the table and then it will just look like some sort of design...or not! At least you have some yummy peaches to show for it.
That sucks - I am so sorry!!!
I agree with Julie - at least you got some way yummy peaches out of it!!
Can you try putting some orange oil on your table to see if the wood will absorb it and make the spots less noticable? That's a major bummer!
I have to ditto what Brooke said. I need to find out where you live so my family can share your food in an emergency. You guys rock at canning!
Love all the canning! Who would have ever guessed that K&A would become so domesticated. Sad about your table though! Call me!!!!!!
Kec, way-to-go. I did 10 jars of peaches and that was enough for me this year. But...to make you feel better, yesterday I was helping my sister-in-law make a batch of salsa and had processed the onions and all the peppers and had it in a bowl (with a lid), and was loading it in the car to take to her house and dumped the whole thing on my garage floor!!! The bowl was empty. I couldn't take a picture, I just wanted to cry!! Oh well, I went and bought more stuff!!
