Down Syndrome Creed and UDSF Luau

I have seen this poem in a few places lately and it is so perfect for my little Bree!
Down Syndrome Creed

My face may be different
But my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry
And I take pride in my gains

I was sent here among you
To teach you to love
As God in the heavens
Looks down from above

To Him I'm no different
His love knows no bounds
It's those here among you
In cities and towns
That judge me by standards
That man has imparted

But this family I've chosen
Will help me get started
For I'm one of the children
So special and few
That came here to learn
The same lessons as you

That love is acceptance
It must come from the heart
We all have the same purpose
Though not the same start
The Lord gave me life
To live and embrace
And I'll do it as you do
But at my own pace
This is Bree practicing her standing. She is getting a little better and putting weight on her feet and it is so cute because she does this little giggle when she is standing like she is so proud of herself.
Friday night we had the chance to go to a Luau with the utah down syndrome foundation and it was so much fun. Since Kris is the new treasurer we decided we needed to get to know more people.
Bree made a new friend, Katya. It was so nice to meet Katya and her family and talk about similarities of what we are going through. Katya is 2 and so the girls are doing similar things. They even had the same flip flops on and her parents and I both said they are the only kind they can keep on their flexible feet. It was nice to talk to people who are going through the same things as we are with Bree.

After the Luau we had this Hawaiin entertainment and somehow I was chosen to be part of the girls dance.
Kris and the girls waiting for the entertainment to start. The girls were so interested in how the guy with the fire stick didn't burn himself. It was a fun evening!

We feel the same, too. You are the first people we have met who have a kid the same age as ours, and we are glad you live so close. I think Bree is a little ahead of Katya right now though. Katya just barely learned how to stand up. It was great to meet you, and your kids are so adorable!

I think its so great that they do fun activities like this so you can get to know other families in your same situation! I LOVE that first picture of Bree! I also love the pictures of you dancing. I know you talked them in to letting you be in it!

How cute that the other little girl had the same flip-flops and flexible feet! Bree really is so darling. And, looks like a fun night - although I agree with Julie that you were probably begging to participate! You are always trying to get in on a good dance competition! (ie: the cruise!)
