Green Ribbon Week
Well Julie and I survived our first big PTA event. We are on the board as the health and safety commisioners so we were in charge of Green Ribbon Week together last week. It was a crazy busy week and we felt like we lived at the school, but it turned out really good.
The first day we planned to do a big balloon launch for the kickoff and every student would get to release a green balloon for signing their pledge to be safe. We spent the entire day at the school blowing up 550 balloons and of course the only hour we needed it to be good weather, it was raining and lightning so we couldn't take all the students out on the field at once like we planned. We improvised and took them out one grade at a time in front of the school so they could come right back in and not have to be out in the rain. We did have the newspaper show up and do a little clip on the event, which was cool but it would have been lots better with 550 of them being launched at the same time. Oh well what do you do? The kids still seemed to enjoy it!

Tuesday was "Protect you Head day" everyone wore crazy hats and we held a drawing for bike helmets for anyone that wore a crazy hat.
Tuesday we also helped with the bonus recess the kids had earned from selling Happenings books.

Adrie wore her crazy mask from preschool instead of a crazy hat.
Wednesday was "walk to school day" We passed out fruit snacks to everyone walking to school.

Thursday was "You CAN be Safe" - we had everyone bring cans of food to donate to the food bank. We collected 487 pounds of food in one day. Not bad!

Friday was "Be seen in Green"-everyone who wore green got green taffy at lunch-almost the entire school had worn green. It was great. We also had an emergency drill to end the safety week.
Kyra thought it was great that we were at the school so much last week and this week she keeps asking if we are going to be there again this week.

1st day of Preschool
The youngest siblings heading out of preschool together
When we found where Bret was sitting at lunch we went over to say hi to him and I was so impressed with him and his friends. Bret is a student body officer and very involoved and popluar and him and his cute cute friends were all sitting at this table and when I walked up they said "Kecia this is our friend Berkely" and I look over and there is this cute girl with down syndrome sitting at their table with all these cute boys. I went over to talk to her and she put her hand out and said "Hi I am Berkeley, I am a sophomore" She proceeded to tell me how she loves school and how nice these boys are. I was so impressed with these senior boys to be including this cute girl. It made me a little teary because I just hope and pray that there are good boys (and girls) that will be that kind to Bree someday.
All in all it was a good day and I am glad Adrie is enjoying it. It is easier for me to let her do it because it is only an hour and a half long. We have a carpool so we only have to drive once a week and the other day when Julie K brought Adrie home Julie D and I were working on PTA stuff in the kitchen and Adrie comes in and says "Ahh It's good to be home with you all again!" Adrie's little personality just cracks me up.
