Happy BIrthday Adrie!
My little Adrie Lou Bell is 5 years old!! I can't believe it! 5 seems so old for her...I think it seems more weird now that my second child is 5. She should still be little! We had a weekend full of festivities and Adrie loved every minute of it. Two weeks before her birthday she made a chart to countdown the days until her birthday! Adrie always likes to talk about how she was born close to Thanksgiving and that she spent her first Thanksgiving in the hospital only a couple days old.5 Things we love about Adrie:
- She has the cutest little voice!
- She is SUPER kind to everyone and is always watching out for others!
- She easily forgives others
- She LOVES little trinkets and little "things"
- She is our fashion diva and is very fashion conscious!
Happy Birthday my sweet pea, Adrie! We are so glad you are part of our family!
Lunch with friends
After Preschool last week we headed with some of the preschool crew to Chick-fil-A for lunch to celebrate Adrie's birthday. The birthday was a good excuse to get together.

What little hams!Birthday Sleepover
I have started trying to do a big friend party only every other year so this was the year we didn't have a big friend party. So instead I let Adrie invite her cousins over for a sleepover.
They had pizza
Adrie wanted a "strawberry shortcake" theme
She was really excited about her new strawberry/ballerina PJ's to wear to the sleepover
She got a new Christmas Strawberry Shortcake movie to watch with everyone
We had a pinata...which happened to be the TInkerbell one she used last year because we couldn't find a strawberry shortcake one that Adrie approved of.

What is a sleepover without a pillow fight?
Before the kids went to bed we planted seeds (aka frosted cheerios) in "magic dirt" (aka crushed oreos) and we told the kids that they had to grow their own breakfast. As they were going to bed they said "I really hope mine grows so I don't have to just eat dirt for breakfast!"
In the morning they were excited to see that it worked! Their seeds turned into doughnuts!
Adrie got some fun new things...I love birthdays because it means my kids are entertained with new things afterwards!

On Adrie's birthday she woke up to find a NEW Barbie Bike (which I have to add was my best bargain find in a long time...I happened to find it at Target randomly marked down to $17.50 and then I also had a $5 gift card...can't beat a NEW bike for 12 bucks! Especially when it also happened to be the exact one she had been asking for and it happened to be $70 everywhere else!) Her bike broke clear back at the first of the summer so she was really excited to finally get one.

"Thanks" "GIving" Trees
A few weeks ago for family night we made these cute trees (thanks to naptime nastalgia)
Each day you are supposed to cut out leaves and put one leaf on each tree. On the thanks tree we write something we are thankful for that day and on the giving tree we write something we did for someone else that day. It has been a fun activity to do with the kids each day and to remember BOTH aspects of Thanksgiving this month. As a continuation of this, last monday for family night we talked about giving and we talked about how there are some people who don't have toys or clothes. So we decided for our activity that night we would go through the girls toys and games and dolls and stuffed animals and they would be able to choose which things to give to these children. We have a neighbor who helps out at the homeless shelter for women and children and he was looking for items to take. It was SO cute to see the girls trying to find things they could give away!
Adrie had a harder time with it than Kyra but she did really well
Kyra was VERY into it! She just kept finding things and saying "I am sure the little girls would LOVE this one" . The next morning when she woke up she asked me if dad had already taken the stuff to the kids and when I said no not yet, she said "oh good because I want to go downstairs in the toy room and go through everything as a family when dad gets home and find some more things to give to them." It was really great to see them concerned about others and willing to give!
So one of the things I have been grateful for the last few weeks (before today) is the BEAUTIFUL fall weather. It was so nice last week that we took the kids to the park for lunch two days in a row! It was splendid!

I am also grateful for Bree's obsession with Dora because it is the only time she will sit still and stay out of things. I can get a few things done while Dora is on! She loves it!
I am grateful for the simple pleasures of children...like the joy they find in jumping in a pile of leaves
(I am sure I will post more "grateful" posts later but this is a start)
